Why you should

Before After

Composting your waste is one of the most satisfying things that you can do in the garden. It annually gives you cost free nutrients when spread around your garden and can be used to provide the soil for any pot plants that you wish to grow. It takes the pressure off landfill waste sites and is good for the environment, both in your garden and your local surroundings.

You don’t need a great deal of room in your garden but even if you haven’t any, you should be able to find a neighbour who would be only too pleased to boost their composting with your compostable waste or maybe consider a wormery.

Still not sure?

How do I do it?

The good thing is that there is loads of advice out there. If you are on the internet, then you can follow the links on this page. The home composting link has videos for you to watch and caters both for the first timer and the potential master composter who wants to promote composting within their community. Garden organic has more videos and concentrates on the benefits of organic gardening.

If you are not internet savvy, then you can get all the help that you need by contacting your local Council.

Worcestershire County Council, County Hall, Spetchley Road, Worcester, WR5 2NP Customer Services on 01905 765765 (Monday to Friday 8am - 8pm, Saturday 9am - 5pm).

For the bigger stuff you are best investing in Wychavon DC’s Garden Waste (Wheelie Bin) Collection Service. If the cost puts you off, then why not share them with a neighbour. You are unlikely, we have found, to have so much waste between you that cannot be covered by the excellent twice weekly service.

Wychavon District Council, Civic Centre, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Pershore, Worcestershire, WR10 1PT General enquiries 01386 565000.

Sedgeberrow School If your child goes there to why not ask her/him. They compost as part of their Eco School project.
